Our Story
How did JustPennies MarketPlace come to be?
JustPennies Marketplace was born from a lifelong love of numismatics and a special appreciation for United States pennies. Years of searching rolls, filling albums, studying dates and mint marks, and learning the subtle differences in grades built not only experience but respect for the hobby. Pennies tell the everyday story of America. They are the coins most people first collect and often the ones passed down in jars, envelopes, or small keepsake boxes from parents and grandparents. That personal connection is where JustPennies began.
Over time it became clear that there was a gap in the coin world. Many collectors do not want to buy a thousand dollar rarity or compete in high pressure auctions. They simply want to spend five dollars on a common date they are missing, upgrade a coin in their album, or sell a modest penny they inherited. Too often those collectors end up on large platforms built for volume and profit, not for education or fairness. Coins are frequently listed with exaggerated rarity claims, inflated prices, and little explanation of grade or true market value. New collectors are taken advantage of every day because they are never taught what they are buying or selling. This goal of this site is to not allow those exagurated claims and create a fail marketplace for the common penny collector or penny roll investor.
JustPennies was envisioned as a trusted alternative. A place where collectors can confidently buy a low-cost penny without worrying about hype or misleading descriptions. A place where someone can sell that five dollar valued penny their grandfather handed down, or a roll of circulated cents found in a jar, and know they are dealing with people who understand coins. Not every transaction needs to be big to matter. Sometimes the joy is in completing a set one small piece at a time.
The marketplace was also designed with sellers in mind. Investors and collectors who want to buy or sell rolls of pennies for the future deserve an option that does not eat away profits through excessive listing fees. Whether you have a box of penny rolls or a single 1980 cent in average condition, JustPennies provides education, transparency, and a welcoming place to participate.
JustPennies was never created simply to make money. It was built to support the global community of penny lovers who enjoy the hobby, appreciate history, and want a fair place to buy and sell. There are no listing fees ever. Sellers can list unlimited quantities, and only a six percent selling fee is applied when a coin actually sells. Buyers pay a three percent transaction fee to help cover hosting and platform costs. That structure keeps the marketplace accessible, honest, and focused on people rather than profit.
At its heart, JustPennies is about trust, education, and community. It is a place where every penny matters, where small value coins are respected, and where collectors of all levels can participate without pressure. Whether you are just starting your collection or continuing a passion built over decades, JustPennies exists for you.
